Common Referral Questions
Sleep Consultation
Children with autism and those who are typically developing often have difficulties with sleep. Dr. Kay provides practical, sensitive, and evidence based consultation related to difficulty falling asleep, night wakings, night weaning, and early waking. If your child sleeps better, the whole family will sleep better! Better sleep improves behavior and learning.
Program and Progress Reviews
At times, parents wonder whether their child’s progress is maximal. Some children in ABA or school programs need reviews of their programs to ensure that the most effective strategies are being utilized and that the most meaningful goals are targeted. Contemporary ABA is a science and an art. I have worked with children using ABA techniques for over 30 years and can review learning and behavior reduction programs. As a psychologist and BCBA-D, I’m delighted to work collaboratively with the family and behavior analyst. Testing related to progress monitoring for children with and without autism is also offered.
Dr. Kay has experience with personally toileting training hundreds of children and can share toilet training tips, strategies and comprehensive methods with parents. Toilet training can be difficult for children who are typically developing, those with delays, and children with autism. Some children are simply more challenging to toilet train than others. Toilet training has many benefits for your child’s confidence and health. Completing toilet training relieves parental stress.

I provide parents with coaching around reducing problem behaviors and helping children find more positive ways to express themselves. Behavior problem reduction can increase a child’s success at home, school, and in the community.
Dr. Kay consults with families regarding feeding difficulties in young children. Getting help with picky eating and other feeding problems can be beneficial to your child’s health and abiltiy to participate in the community. Additionally, it can make family mealtimes pleasant and enjoyable.
